Choose Which Amex Cards Get Priority For Offers

Amex now limits each offer to one card per cardholder. Here's how to set your card priority so MaxRewards will keep activating offers automatically.

Written by Emily Bingham

Amex made some changes that will only allow us to activate each offer on only one card per cardholder.

To make sure you still get the most value, MaxRewards added Card Priority. Set the order once, and we'll activate every new Amex Offer based on your rules from then on.

How it works

1. Put your Amex cards in order

Drag your cards into the order you want, everyday card first. Each offer goes to the highest card on your list where it's available.

2. Set Exceptions for Specific Categories

Say your Gold is what you use for groceries, even though your Platinum is first on your list. Add a Groceries exception, and every grocery offer will go to your Gold instead.

You can set up exceptions for any category. Travel, dining, and other categories all work the same way.

What happens next

Here's what that looks like in practice. Say a Delta offer shows up on three of your cards. If you have a Travel exception, it goes to that card. If not, it goes to the highest card on your list where the Delta offer is available. Either way, the other cards skip it, and every new offer gets sorted the same way.

How to edit your card priority

If you ever need to make changes, you can edit your priority order or exceptions anytime.

  1. Go to the Accounts tab

  2. Tap the gear icon on your Amex account

  3. The next screen shows your Card Priority widget, where you can reorder cards or update your category exceptions

Setting it up takes about 2 minutes

Once it's set, MaxRewards follows your rules on every sync. No need to touch it again unless you want to make a change.

And as always, if you have any questions about how this works, don't hesitate to reach out to member support via the in-app chat, or by emailing support@maxrewards.com.
