You can connect your banks and credit cards on the MaxRewards website using the MaxRewards browser extension. Once your accounts are connected, they sync automatically in the background.
Note: Syncing on the web requires a desktop or laptop browser that supports extensions. It isn’t available on phones or tablets. To sync your accounts from your phone, use the MaxRewards app.
Connecting your accounts
In Chrome, Safari, or Firefox, go to maxrewards.com and sign in.
Tap Accounts in the left-hand panel.
If you haven’t already, install the MaxRewards browser extension on your computer for your browser:
Once the extension is installed, go back to the Accounts tab. You’ll see “You have the extension. Now connect your banks.”
Search for your bank, or find it in the list.
Tap Connect. A new window opens on your bank’s own site, where you’ll enter your banking credentials.
Once your bank is connected, it shows as Syncing and then appears in your Accounts tab, along with the cards it found.
Your bank password stays in your browser. If your bank asks for a verification code, enter it in the bank window.
Accounts you sync on the web also carry over to the MaxRewards mobile app, so you don’t need to connect them again.
Automatic syncing
After your accounts are connected, they sync automatically in the background while you use your browser. If your browser is in full screen, you may see the bank windows pop up while this happens. You shouldn’t need to enter your credentials again.
The one exception is accounts that require 2FA verification. Your bank requires this, and it’s not something we can bypass. If one of your banks asks for a code, enter it in the bank window to finish syncing.
You can also sync at any time by tapping Sync on a bank, or Sync all at the top of the Accounts tab.
The refresh widget
When it’s time for your accounts to resync, a small MaxRewards widget appears in the corner of your browser that says Time for a quick refresh. It counts down a few seconds and then starts syncing on its own. You can also:
While your accounts are syncing, the widget shows Refreshing your accounts with your progress, such as 4/5. You can keep browsing and it will finish in the background. Tap the minus (–) icon to minimize it.
If an account didn’t finish syncing, it appears under Needs attention. Tap Retry next to it to try again.
Choose how often your accounts sync
Tap your name at the bottom of the left-hand panel.
Tap Settings.
Tap Account Sync.
Under Auto-sync frequency, choose Daily, Every 3 days, Weekly, or Never.
This setting applies only to the extension in the browser you’re using. If you use the extension in other browsers, each one keeps its own setting.
If an account doesn’t sync automatically
An account may not auto-sync if:
Your bank credentials need to be updated
Your bank or connection has a temporary network issue
The authentication takes too long
If this happens, tap Retry in the refresh widget, or open the Accounts tab and tap Sync on the bank to try again. If it still won’t sync, reach out to us through Profile > Contact Us in the app, or email support@maxrewards.com.
